Bled Island in Slovenia

Bled Island in Slovenia

Bled is a town and a municipality in Slovenia, and like most European towns, is a popular tourist destination for its scenic beauty. The town is particularly popular for the glacial Lake Bled.
The lake is situated in a picturesque environment, surrounded by mountains of the Julian Alps and lush green forests. In the middle of the lake is Slovenia’s only natural island. The island has several buildings, the main one being the Pilgrimage Church of the Assumption of Mary, built in the 15th century. Its majestic 52 meter tower has a grand stairway consisting of 99 steps leading up to the top of the building. The church is most commonly used as a wedding venue because of its scenic location and the natural attraction of the place. There are several other notable buildings on the island, but the Pilgrimage Church tops the list, as the most elegant of all the buildings on this fairytale island of Bled.
Despite being tiny in size, Bled Island has attracted humans since the prehistoric ages. Archeologists have discovered traces of prehistoric human settlements dating back to the 11th century BC. In the early Middle Ages there was a pre-Christian, probably Old Slavic cult area in the location of the present day church. On the island 124 graves with skeletons from the 9th to the 11th century were also found.

According to written sources, the first masonry church on the island, a three-naved Romanesque basilica, was consecrated by the Aquilean patriarch Pellegrino in 1142. In the 15th century, it was rebuilt in the Gothic style: a new presbytery, a freestanding bell tower and the main altar were built. The church's present form is from the 17th century when it was renovated after another earthquake.
Bled Lake is also very popular among rowing enthusiasts who like to row in its serene and calm waters. It has also been host to several World Rowing Championships.
Another popular attraction near Lake Bled is the iconic Bled Castle perched on a precipice overlooking Lake Bled. According to written sources, it is the oldest Slovenian castle and is currently one of the most visited tourist attractions in Slovenia.

The World's Tallest Climbing Wall

Excalibur: The World's Tallest Climbing Wall

Towering over 121 feet (37 meters) in the air, the Excalibur at the Klimcentrum Bjoeks (Bjoeks Climb Center) in the town of Groningen, The Netherlands, is considered to be the tallest climbing wall in the world. What makes climbing the Excalibur a challenge, aside from the monumental height, is a sleek curve 36 feet (11 meters) out from the base that creates an artificial overhang as one encounters when climbing a real peak. Because of the curve it is possible to climb the tower in many different ways, each posing a different challenge.
At Bjoeks Climb Center, there is an array of indoor climbing walls, including one designed for first-timers and another that’s at a 45 degree angle. There’s also a large indoor-outdoor bordering area with 117 boulders to scamper over.
The Bjoeks Climb Center was started in 1996 by Gert van deer Veen and his friend and climbing partner, Alco Pols.

The X-ray picture shows a 5-centimeter nail stuck in an unidentified South Korean patient's skull Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004. According to a Seoul hospital, doctors found the nail after the man came to the hospital, complaining about a severe headache. They speculate that the nail stuck in the man's head four years ago in an accident but the man didn't know about it. The nail was removed in a surgery last Saturday. (AP Photo/Yonhap).

THE WOMAN

THE WOMAN

When God created woman, he was working late on the 6th day.
An angel came by and said " why spend so much time on that one?"
And the Lord answered  " Have you seen all the specifications I have to meet to shape her?"

"She must be washable, but not made of plastic, have more than 200 moving parts which all must be replaceable and she must function on all kinds of food, she must be able to embrace several kids at the same time, give a hug that can heal anything from a bruised knee to a broken heart and she must do all this with only two hands.
The angel was impressed . " Just two hands ..... impossible  and is this the standard model? Too much work for one day ...
wait until tomorrow and then complete her".

" I will not" said the Lord. " I am so close to complete this creation, which will be the favorite of my heart."
" She will cure herself when sick, and she can work 18 hours a day."
The angel came nearer and touched the woman.

" But you have made her so soft, Lord"

" She is soft" said the Lord. " But I have also made her strong. You can't imagine what she can endure and overcome."

"Can she think?" the angel asked.

The Lord answered " Not only can she think, she can reason and negotiate."
The angel touched the woman's cheek ...

" Lord, it seems this creation is leaking! you have put too many burdens on her."

" She is not leaking... It is a tear" the Lord  corrected the angel.
And the Lord said " Tears are her way of expressing grief, her doubts, her love, her loneliness, her suffering and her pride."

This made a big impression on the angel " Lord .. You are a genius.  you thought of everything. The woman is indeed marvelous!

Indeed she is !

Woman has strengths that amazes man.
She can handle trouble and carry heavy burdens. She holds happiness, love, and opinions, she smiles when feeling like screaming, she sings when she feels like crying, crys when she is happy and laughs when she is afraid.
She fights for what she believes in, stands up against injustice.
She does'nt take "no" for an answer, when she can see a better solution. She gives herself so her family can thrive. Her love is unconditional.

She cries when her kids are victorious. She is happy when her friends do well. She is glad when she hears of a birth or wedding.
Her heart is broken when a next of kin or friend dies.
But she finds the strength to get on with life .
She knows that a kiss and hug can heal a broken heart.

There is only one thing wrong with her ..

SHE FORGETS WHAT SHE IS WORTH !

Twelve Small Changes with a Big Impact

Twelve Small Changes with a Big Impact

If you’re like me, you gave up on big, ambitious New Year’s resolutions years ago. Grand pledges for sweeping changes set me up for failure one too many times. (Giving up fried foods? Really, Kathryn?) This year, why not take a more measured approach to a happier, healthier you? From your office to your bedroom to your car, these small changes can have a big impact on your life.

1.
Wake up ten minutes earlier. When you start your morning in a frantic sprint, you set a stressful tone for the day. (I’m speaking from experience here.) Even ten extra minutes in the morning can help you feel more calm, collected, and ready to face the day.

2. Spend five minutes in silence or meditation.
You’ll soon realize, whether it’s in the morning or evening, that five minutes of sitting quietly with your eyes closed feels a lot longer than five minutes. But just this short respite can foster a tranquility that carries through the day. When things go off the rails (as they inevitably do), simply close your eyes and recall that earlier quietude.

3. Make your bed.
I once heard the saying, “Messy bed, messy head,” and it’s true. I wasn’t always a bed-maker, but once I started I realized what a difference just pulling up the sheets and straightening the pillows made in my general outlook for the day. Plus, a made bed is much more inviting to climb into at night.

4. Walk.
Is there one trip you’d normally make in the car (to work, the gym, the store) that you can make on foot? Walking saves money (good for you) and gas (good for the environment) and burns calories (around 2,000 steps equal one mile). Need motivation? Take a pedometer (there’s one on many iPods and phones) with you.

5. Swap your latte for tea.
Those sugary coffee drinks we suck down can actually drain our energy, as well as our wallets. A Starbucks grande latte with skim milk has 150 mg caffeine, 130 calories, and 18 grams of sugar and will set you back almost $4 (or over $1,000 a year). Avoid a sugar crash and ditch your caffeine crutch by switching to tea (black has just 14-61 mg caffeine). Spice it up with lemon and honey or agave syrup instead of sugar. Save even more money by brewing it yourself.

 6. Swap your Coke (or Diet Coke) for water. Studies have linked soda (particularly of the diet variety) to kidney damage, weight gain, tooth decay, and bone loss. Especially if you consume more than one a day, consider trading a can for a cup of water.

7. Compliment someone. Don’t wait for one. Give one. Compliments are great conversation starters, and when you give a lift, you feel a lift.

8. Tell someone you love them. Life is never long enough to say this as many times as it should be said. Whether your mother, a friend, a significant other, or, heck, your dog, make it a habit to tell someone at least once a day that you love him or her. While it may feel strange at first, you will never regret it.

9. Sign up for an automatic savings account. Setting aside a portion of your paycheck each month can be painful. But if you sign up to have your bank save a little bit for you every day (for example, Bank of America’s Keep the Change program, which rounds every debit purchase up to the dollar and automatically deposits the difference into your savings), you’ll hardly even notice. It’s not a retirement plan, but it’s something.

10. Turn out the lights. Taking just two minutes to switch off your lights and electronics when you’re going to be away from home (or the room) can save you hundreds of dollars a year on your electricity bill. Plus, it’s earth friendly. Everybody wins.

11. Stand (or sit) up straight. Good posture prevents back and neck pain and projects—and even boosts—confidence. One trick when driving: tilt your rearview mirror up a bit. You’ll have to sit up to see. At your desk, the top of your computer screen should be at eye level. Put a small cushion in the curve of your lower back, and your spine will fall into alignment.

12. Replace your pillow. A lumpy, overstuffed, or flat pillow could be keeping you from a good night’s sleep. (Not to mention the gross statistics about dead skin cells and dust mites.) Experts say quality pillows should be replaced every two to three years; cheap ones more often. Here’s the test: fold your pillow in half and hold it like that for 30 seconds. If it doesn’t spring back when you release it, it’s time to shop for a new one.

Traditionally a fountain is an arrangement where water comes from a source, fills a basin of
some sort, and is then drained away. In a fountain sheets of water might flow over various surfaces
of stone, concrete or maybe metal. Basins might overflow from one into another, or perhaps
the overflow may mimic a natural cascade. Countless fountains can be found in small, artificial,
ornamental ponds, basins and formal garden pools, and often they include a sculpture.
